After a stressful couple weeks of watching both the houses of the California Legislature grapple with negotiations, on the evening of Wednesday, July 3, both the California State Senate and Assembly approved Senate Bill 867 to put the $10 billion Safe Drinking Water, Wildfire Prevention, Drought Preparedness & Clean Air Bond Act of 2024 on the November ballot.

This gives us, the voting public, the opportunity to say yes to these important investments for our ecosystems and communities. These investments are much needed if the State is going to keep its promise of protecting 30% of land and coastal waters by 2030 — especially given continued budget cuts that target 30x30 funding programs and conservancies.

We owe a big thank you to Senate President Mike McGuire, Speaker of the Assembly Robert Rivas, and the entire California Legislature for giving voters the chance at a better climate future in November by voting for an unprecedented $10 billion climate bond.
